WE’RE PROUD TO HAVE JASON NELSON AS OUR “RESIDENT PASTOR”  AVAILABLE TO SERVE THE SPIRITUAL NEEDS OF OUR FAMILIES

Having a Resident Pastor was something that evolved rather naturally for Knollcrest Funeral Home and Steuerle Chapel. Jason Nelson, a pastor at Willowcreek Church made himself available to our important ministry of grieving and funeral services before, during and after the pandemic. The comfort he’s provided to so many families has made him a very strong asset when choosing our Family Funeral homes. He would share with you that he receives more than he provides, when celebrating the lives of loved ones.

He is prepared to be who you need him to be. Funeral Arrangements are made with a very short planning horizon. Pastor Jason never looks at his calendar before responding “I’ll be there”. Providing spiritual guidance and comfort takes priority over everything else. We’re fortunate to have him as part of our ministry. So too, is every family who more and more often ask for him specifically when they’ve experienced a loss.

When a family chooses our services, we work to make sure it’s an enduring choice.

Holly Stammis represents one of several of the next generation of the Knollcrest Funeral Home Family, founded by Robert Van Staalduinen over 3 decades ago. Bob Van (as he is known) now counts 2 of his children, Holly and Josh as part of the rapidly growing staff of the Knollcrest Funeral Home and Steuerle Chapel Family. Holly serves as Director of Marketing and Finance.

When you grow up in a Funeral Home family (in this case even living in the funeral home) you learn much about the legacy of service and how important it is that you’re serving several generations of a family, past, present and future, simultaneously. When a family trusts you with their loved one; a generational choice is made. Providing first rate service often means you’ll be serving every member and every generation of those families. So, serving every family for the first time, is the opportunity to let them know the entire staff at our locations is dedicated to accommodating every desire they have, to celebrate the life of their loved one. And do so in a manner where from that point forward the choice has already been made. We treasure the opportunity to serve all of the families we serve. We’re honored by the trust they place in us to help them through their most difficult of times.

GOD’S BEEN GOOD; BLESSING OUR WORK AND BLESSING OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IN OUR SERVICE AT KNOLLCREST AND STEUERLE LOCATIONS

Back in 1988, Bob and Eileen Van Staalduinen embarked on the mission of building a brand new funeral home; Knollcrest Funeral Home in Lombard was born. 35+ years seems like a long time for a successful business entity, but for a funeral home, that’s still in its infancy. Many have 3, 4 or even more generations and over 100 years of history. So, starting from the ground up is a very noble, but challenging process. With the blessings of God, and an incredibly supportive neighborhood, Knollcrest very quickly established itself as a very special place with an extremely capable staff of Funeral Directors and assistants who provided outstanding personal and professional service. The reward being the wholehearted support and trust of the community.

So much trust was built in fact, that Knollcrest was able to add Steuerle Chapel in Villa Park as part of the Knollcrest family of funeral services. Now, well into their second generation of their family serving their communities, with their children accepting the mission of carrying on the tradition. Having grown up living at the funeral home, they saw the commitment of their parents (and grandparents) providing compassionate service to every family who trusted Bob with their loved ones. That trust continues to be well placed at Knollcrest and Steuerle.

Many Vets and their families are unaware of their “Earned Benefit” of Free Burial Expenses

“Our freedoms are only in existence because of veterans” states Robert Van Staalduinen, owner of Knollcrest Funeral Home and Knollcrest Steuerle Chapel. He makes this statement emphatically to assure Veterans of the commitment of Knollcrest and Steuerle to the remarkable people who have served our country. Known more familiarly as Bob Van, his devotion to our servicewomen and men is well known in the many communities they serve in DuPage County, with locations in Lombard/Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park.

Since 1999, our region has been blessed to have a National Cemetery for our Veterans; Abraham Lincoln, in Elwood, Illinois. Veterans, their spouse, and dependent children are entitled to burial or entombment at no charge in return for their faithful service in our military. Military honors from their branch of service are also provided, with the arrangements secured by Knollcrest and Steuerle Funeral Directors. Often, veterans and families are not aware of the ability to access these benefits free of charge, in grateful recognition of their service. Veterans (or their families) must have their DD-214 documentation present when arrangements are made (At Need or Pre-Planning) If this document has been lost or misplaced, we can help you replace it to ensure burial/entombment benefits are rendered.

Aside from the expenses themselves being covered, honors include; the playing of Taps, an American flag to cover the casket or an urn, and the presentation of the flag to the next of kin with the grateful thanks of the President of the United States and a Grateful Nation. A 21 gun salute is offered as well, a moving and respectful service reflecting the humbling and solemn respect due for a loved one who put their life on the line for their nation. “We want to provide the best of services for their service” is how Bob Van puts it. And he means it.

THE ENVIRONMENT WE PROVIDE IS A REFLECTION OF WHAT WE’VE HEARD AND OBSERVED FROM OUR FAMILIES

A lot of thought and input goes into the environment of our entire space. We’ve listened carefully and observed even more carefully how families and their guests interact here. The best use for our space is what every family needs it to be. Knowing that, we’ve built a lot of flexibility into the Knollcrest and Steuerle properties. We operate on one floor in each location, so there is 100% access for everyone to enter and navigate with ease. We’re brighter, using God’s natural light, and very soothing muted colors throughout. Our furniture is sturdy, comfortable and easily able to be arranged in intimate family room settings. We have up to date electronic options including TV monitors, computer hookups, a PA system, and whatever you might need to enhance the audio and visual aspects of your services.
Our lounges are larger, airy and set apart from the chapel space to offer a respite during services. Our facilities make it convenient to accept food offerings or cater for refreshments if that is your preference. Holly Stammis, Joanne Gritters and Becky Schrader are all part of our Administrative team at our funeral homes who are keenly focused on the environment we can share and the comfort we provide to all of our families. While one of our well qualified professional Funeral Directors will see to all of your arrangements and needs, there is an entire staff of others here too, who will see to it we make you comfortable and at ease at the same time. We’re listening and we’re watching to know exactly what provides you the most comfort possible.
